Wenger Calls Cazorla's Injury 'The Worst He Has Ever Seen'

Arsene Wenger has described Santi Cazorla's terrible Achilles injury as "the worst he has ever known", but refuses to believe his playing career is over.

Iwobi was asked to name Arsenal's most skillful player, and picked Cazorla. "It is the worst injury (I have known)", Wenger told his weekly press conference at Arsenal's London Colney training centre yesterday.

Cazorla has been posting regular updates on social media with him working out in the gym as he tries to complete his comeback.

'I wish (he returns in January).

We talked a couple weeks ago about the horrific path his injury and recovery have taken, which is absolutely worth a read if you haven't seen it, and today Wenger himself spoke about it for the first time in a while. "He came here, and I told him to prepare as well as he can", Wenger said.

"He can competent medical people around him and he tries to practise, but I have not spoken to him recently but I hope he comes back".

"That's why I left him out of the squad, hoping he will be back in January". "That was my target at the start".

Spain global Cazorla, who joined Arsenal from Malaga in 2012, recently told Spanish newspaper Marca he aims to be back playing in January.

I must admit, I have been dubious that I would ever see Cazorla back in the Arsenal colours, but going by what he and Wenger have said, we may yet get him back for the second half of the season.

"'I said: 'Play with my son?' I don't have any football to play?' I'd never given it that much importance [to be able to play football again]".

Arsenal, who are sixth in the league 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, host third-placed Tottenham Hotspur in a tightly-contested north London derby on Saturday. "His creative aspects of his game, if he keeps fit, will be a big asset for him".
