Israeli Police Confirm PM Was Questioned for Several Hours on Saturday

Horev was recently named by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a figure who operated against him within the police.

Lior Horev will be no longer provide his services as an external adviser to the Israel Police, according to a statement released on Sunday.

"The head of the police media department approved the request and thanked him for his enormous contribution to the police in a range of fields he dealt with", the statement added, which was also tweeted from Horev's personal Twitter account.

Case 1000 centers on suspicions that Netanyahu received gifts such as expensive champagne and cigars from wealthy businessmen including film producer Arnon Milchan and Australian casino mogul James Packer.

In Case 2000, police are reportedly examining conversations with newspaper proprietor Noni Mozes, leaked excerpts of which were sensationally broadcast on Israeli television earlier this year, which revealed an alleged quid pro quo' arrangement with the Yedioth Ahronoth publisher to limit circulation of the newspaper's main rival in exchange for more favorable coverage.

"We confirm that the prime minister was questioned today [Saturday] for several hours in his Jerusalem residence as part of the investigation led by Lahav 433 [National Crime Unit]", the police said.

Netanyahu has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and called the accusations against him a witch hunt orchestrated by a hostile media.

"Responding to his resignation Sunday, Amsalem said he was happy that the authorities have understood that they made a mistake" in using Horev as an adviser.
