Jude Law to Star in 'Captain Marvel' Opposite Brie Larson

Now there's this: according to Variety, Jude Law is joining Captain Marvel as the film's male lead. The actor will star opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming Captain Marvel. Mar-Vell will be a mentor to Carol Danvers as she learns to harness her newfound superpowers. Ben Mendelsohn was previously reported to take on the villain character Half Nelson.

The Captain Marvel movie will be a period piece set in the 1990s of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will feature the shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls, rulers of a rival empire to that of the Kree. In his secret identity "Walter Lawson", Mar-Vell befriended Carol Danvers, and he was present during the accident that transformed her.

Russia's Foreign Ministry said that it has informed French authorities that Kerimov is a Russian senator with a diplomatic passport, and as such, entitled to immunity.

This would mark the second major tentpole part Law has landed this year after getting the role of young Albus Dumbledore in "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald". In the comics, Mar-Vell is a Kree who is sent to spy on Earth to decide if it's a threat to the Kree empire.

Beyond this tidbits, details on Captain Marvel are still sketchy. While he held the name Captain Marvel, Carol became Ms. Marvel in her own comic book series in 1977. Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige told the crowd at Comic-Con earlier this year that the film will be set in the '90s, which indicates that someone is going to be wearing acid wash jeans and listening to Pearl Jam at some point.
