Record crowd expected for Salvation Army's Thanksgiving dinner

The Salvation Army is planning on feeding up to 1,500 guests on Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 1 633 N. Broadway Ave.

The Salvation Army social services office on Main Street has served more than 200 people in its first month since opening its doors on October 3, according to Captain Scott Murray, a corps officer of the Salvation Army Capital Region in Maine. We had drivers take out meals to them. "It's necessary for us to try and meet those needs so we are preparing for that at this time of Thanksgiving".

With just two days left until Thanksgiving, the Salvation Army is in desperate need of turkey donations and is calling on the community for help.

The families receiving turkeys applied for grocery assistance, Tressler said, noting that the Salvation Army provides emergency grocery items to qualifying families throughout the year.

The Thanksgiving Day Celebration Service and Dinner will be hosted by a group of volunteers from Second Baptist Church.

Salvation Army distributes hundreds. The Army put word out into the community and the turkeys flooded in, Giglio said.

This year's menu, however, hasn't changed and will include 300 pounds of stuffing, 275 pounds of mashed potatoes, 225 pounds of green beans, 700 dinner rolls, 125 pies and, of course, turkey and gravy.

The numbers for our mobile meals are down this year and so we have extended the sign up through noon on Wednesday.
