Chiefs sign Darrelle Revis

Seeking a spark for their struggling defense, the Kansas City Chiefs made one of the season's surprise moves Wednesday afternoon by signing veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis. Meanwhile, Revis continues to be the best businessman mercenary in the NFL.

The Jets still owed Revis $6 million when they cut him, but that money was offset. "He's had a Hall-of-Fame career and his leadership and playing experience will be valuable to our defense". The question facing the Chiefs is simply one of how much does Revis have left?

Revis has started 140 games in 10 National Football League seasons with the New York Jets (2007-12, 2015-16), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2013) and New England Patriots (2014).

Bob Sutton told me years ago he lifted a lot from Rex Ryan's scheme to build his own with the Chiefs.

Darrelle Revis #24 of the New York Jets celebrates making a game saving interception in the closing minutes of regulation preserving a 31-27 win against the Buffalo Bills during their game on December 14, 2008 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Revis had perhaps the worst season of his career in 2016.

"We're excited to add Darrelle to the roster", Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said.

The Chiefs can surely use held in the secondary, which hasn't performed at a high clip in the absence of safety Eric Berry. If they face the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Patriots in the playoffs, that will be a serious problem. Revis played with the Jets from 2007-12, Tampa Bay in 2013 and won a Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2014 before returning to the Jets.
