On Tuesday, Jacob Mudenda, speaker of Zimbabwe's parliament, read out Mugabe's letter announcing his immediate resignation as a president.

Mugabe's resignation followed an impeachment motion adopted by Zimbabwe's parliament on Tuesday.

"As Zimbabwe's oldest friend, we will do all we can to support this, working with our global and regional partners to help the country achieve the brighter future it so deserves", the Prime Minister promised.

Lawmakers roared in jubilation and people have begun celebrating in the streets.

The move led to the military taking over the state-run broadcaster and confining Mugabe to his house.

"Galz hopes that the incoming government will commit to upholding Zimbabwe's constitutional obligations to protect the rights of all people, including LGBTIQ people".

He said moving the office to a more community focused environment would help any families in need. The money collected during the 2017 campaign will support Salvation Army programs in St.

The announcement ended Mugabe's 37-year rule of the African nation.

The ANC has also praised the Zimbabwean military for its "peaceful" handling of the situation to ensure a "smooth transition", in the wake Mugabe's resignation.

"It was not easy, but finally the tyrant Mugabe has fallen and we are hopeful that he will not get away with the atrocities that he committed against the people of Zimbabwe over the years".

On the fate of Mr Mugabe and his wife, the Foreign Secretary said: "That is a decision for the people of Zimbabwe".

He urged Zimbabwean Citizens to laud the role played by Mugabe during the liberation struggle.He also said Mugabe played a pivotal role in the empowerment of Africans in general.

"And yet, tragically, he allowed that legacy to be squandered and his country went to rack and ruin and in some cases his people were driven to the brink of starvation".
