Infiniti QX50 breaks cover ahead of LA debut

More so, the new VC-Turbo engine is expected to deliver 27 mpg combined with a front-wheel-drive setup, along with 26 mpg combined with all-wheel drive - the new QX50 should arrive with a 35 percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the former generation V6. The QX50 will be the luxury brand's rival to the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 and so on.

Infiniti says the design (we only get a peek at one image released by the manufacturer so far) evolves the company's styling language ('Powerful Elegance', by the way...) although not too much, so it fits in neatly under the flagship QX80 as a recognisable member of the family. It's built using an industry-first SHF (Super High Formability - 980 MPa) high-tensile steel. And Infiniti is confirming that it will be the first production vehicle in the world to use an engine with a variable compression ratio. It can adjust compression ratio from either 8:1 for peformance or 14:1 for fuel economy. In doing so, the engine can offer optimum performance or efficiency.

Mated to a CVT gearbox, the 2-litre turbocharged engine produces 200kW and 380Nm and is available in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The new QX50 will come with Nissan's ProPILOT driver assistance technology, as seen on the latest Nissan Leaf.

Two months earlier in June, the USS Fitzgerald and a cargo ship smashed into each other off Japan, leaving seven sailors dead. President Trump commented on the situation Wednesday morning tweeting that the administration is "monitoring the situation".

Infiniti adds that the QX50 will feature its pioneering autonomous drive support technologies, promising to assist the driver when accelerating, braking and steering during single-lane carriageway driving, whilst still allowing them to retain ultimate control over the vehicle.

The new model will go on sale next year following its public debut at the LA auto show next week.

After a few days at the global motor show in Los Angeles will host the public premiere of the new crossover Infiniti QX50.
