Mimicry artist and Popular actor Kalabhavan Abi passes away

The mimicry artiste was undergoing treatment for dengue but he was taken to the hospital for having an extremely low platelet count. Abi has brought to life the character of Thaatha, known for quick wits and slapstick comedies. According to reports, Abi had recently returned from a stage show in America. Abi was famous for his spot-on impressions of Amitabh Bachchan and had lent his voice to numerous veteran actor's commercials.

'He was brought dead to the hospital at 10.20. Abhi, 52, the first "mimicry superstar" in Malayalam, was suffering from an acute blood disorder and was under medication.

He is survived by wife Sunila and children Ahana, Aleena and Shane Nigam.

He had earlier received much applause for dubbing in a Malayalam advertisement for actor Amitabh Bachchan. Remembering Abi, actor Jagadish said that Abi was an artist who fearlessly ventured into new and challenging paths.
