Top five announcements from Google for India event

It will be a special version of Google Assistant, which will support Hindi and English languages.

At the event, Google announced Android Oreo (Go edition) that will be available for entry-level smartphones, for which India is a huge market. It's a new effort by Google to launch budget-friendly Android smartphones for developing markets.

"The Assistant can help make phone calls, text, play music and videos, navigate and search the internet, and access other apps and services", said Google.

Google also confirmed that the Bill Payments feature would be rolled out starting Tuesday, but it will be available for customers in a phased manner. For one, it is 4G LTE and VoLTE-ready which means that it has the capability to become a user's full-fledged internet device, much like a smartphone. Note that the JioPhone already comes with its own in-house assistant - called HelloJio - that can be used for voice search and fire up relevant apps, including calling and texting people. Google Maps director Martha Welsh made an official announcement at Google for India event. Second, it is light on storage and data, and great on patchy connections, said Google in its blog.

The company announced "Files Go", a new app that helps free up space, find files faster and share files offline with people nearby. Just add the biller and Tez will then show if you have any pending bills and then you can pay them from your connected bank account.

With this in mind, Google Maps has introduced a new feature to help two-wheeler riders in India. This is the first time Voice Assistant will be available in any feature phone.
