Forrester senior analyst Xiaofeng Wang noted that Amazon made a splash when it first launched its Prime Now services in Singapore and has made improvements to the service since then, as in the early days, it was unable to fulfill the two-hour delivery promise and had limited product categories and options.

The e-commerce giant had launched its Prime Now fast delivery service in July.

However, to succeed in the market, Wang asserted that Amazon needs to play to its strengths because besides its two-hour delivery promise, consumers in Singapore expect Amazon's own products like Echo, Kindle and digital books to be made available to them, have access to more products and brands from the USA, as well as digital content like games and movies. Our attempts to order items from the Amazon US website itself didn't seem to include or display the benefits of our Amazon Prime Singapore membership. Its service, which offers free two-hour delivery from its local warehouse with a minimum order of $40 between 10 am and 10 pm daily via the Prime Now app, will also be made exclusive for members. Existing Amazon Prime Video subscribers in Singapore will not be forced into joining Prime, however, it will no longer be available for subscription as a standalone service.

He added that Prime membership is "country-specific and not-transferable" so those with United States memberships are unable to use it locally, and that he encouraged Singaporeans "to leverage the Prime membership package developed specifically for Singapore".

Lazada, the region's largest e-commerce site, launched its own membership programme in April called LiveUp in anticipation of Amazon's entry to Singapore. Benefits offered include rebates and discounts for online supermarket RedMart, Netflix and Uber.
