Ford sues John Cena for reselling his 2017 GT

In this case, it seems Cena was also contractually obligated to keep the Ford GT for two years before selling.

Back when deliveries of the new Ford GT started, professional wrestler John Cena was pictured with an example of the supercar.

When supercar makers deliver a new rare and expensive model to the market - like the McLaren P1 or Ferrari LaFerrari - they go to a lot of trouble to ensure buyers are real aficionados who will love and cherish their new vehicle.

Buyers who showed brand loyalty or would likely make their ownership well-known - that is, show off the vehicle - were given preference, which made Cena, who owns a 2006 GT, a ideal applicant. No one was quite 100 percent sure that was his auto because in the footage, which was filmed at a Ford dealership, he seemed to deliberately mention "a" Ford GT instead of calling it his. But it's all gone a bit Pete Tong.

The lawsuit alleges breach of contract, fraudulent misrepresentation and unjust enrichment.

According to the lawsuit, Cena told the company he sold the vehicle, along with other property, to pay bills.

"My sincerest apologies", and explained the sale was "for cash to take care of expenses". Ford specified a 24-month ownership period as a minimum to qualify for a GT purchase.

Cena's YouTube series Auto Geeks makes a point of telling the story behind each one of his cars; we're surprised this is the story he wants to tell about his 2017 Ford GT.

Cena took delivery of his auto September 23, 2017, signing a contract that explicitly said he understood "being selected for the opportunity to purchase this vehicle is non-transferable and [that he agrees] not to sell the vehicle within the first 24 months of delivery".
