Missing Girls Found in Raid on Cult Compound

The girls were believed to be with Samuel Shaffer, a self-described prophet who had two girls of his own. That's when police raided a compound used by the Knights of the Crystal Blade, a polygamist sect Coltharp founded with Samuel Warren Shaffer after he was excommunicated from the Mormon Church, Coltharp's ex-wife says, per the New York Daily News.

Deputies went there and found the Coltharps' vehicle "at a compound made up of shipping containers".

In an ICSO release, Schlosser said "it is now believed Johnathan Colthard and Samuel Shaffer are part of the Knights of the Crystal Blade". They called themselves the Knights of The Crystal Blade. Coltharp had not been formally charged on Tuesday, and no attorney or publicly listed phone numbers were immediately available for him.

Iron County deputies said Shaffer was the "prophet" but had turned over that position to Coltharp.

Police took the suspect, Samuel Shaffer into the custody while their father, John Coltharp was already in the custody.

Coltharp is said to be a survivalist and "doomsday prepper" who doesn't believe in modern medicine, according to court documents.

On a website titled "The kingdom of God or nothing!", Shaffer outlines a religious doctrine he says was handed down to him by God on the morning of June 22, 2015.

All four girls were transported to Cedar City Hospital, and Samantha Shaffer was subsequently flown by Life Flight to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. They considered themselves separated but still lived together when he quit his job and moved with the children to his parents' home in May, Lee said. The children's father, John Coltharp, is a member of the sect. "They are following his prophecies and I believe he is with them and helping hide the children".

Then, on December 1, her ex-husband turned up at his parents' home. However, he reportedly refused to tell anyone where the children were.

But the Amber Alert was issued Monday after the children were allegedly kidnapped by their father, reported Fox 13.

There deputies found and rescued two of the four missing children.

A tip was supplied that led to the raid.

About two hours later, someone who heard the Amber Alert called to report a man walking alone on the dirt road several miles west of the compound. Coltharp's sister, Cindi Ray, told the Salt Lake Tribune she was anxious the girls may have been hidden away to be given into marriage. "These two children were not properly dressed for the cold temperatures and did not have food or water at that time". The conditions of the mobile home were "deplorable" and the girls had signs of dehydration and were in poor health, the court papers said.

All four were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
