Auto ploughs into crowd in NY - 'multiple people injured'

Three pedestrians were struck during a crash in lower Manhattan Thursday afternoon, a few blocks away from One World Trade Center, according to police.

The crash happened less than a mile from the path where a driver plowed into bicyclists and pedestrians in October, killing eight people and injuring 12 others.

The trio was hit at around 1:20 Broadway and Liberty Street.

Ioc said the Lincoln's driver "did not seem to be in any medical distress" when officers found him and the heavily damaged auto.

Four people were taken to hospital but none of them are believed to hover life-threatening injuries.

Police said the area is safe but to avoid it because of the ongoing collision investigation and traffic congestion. Authorities were working to determine whether the crash was intentional.
