Pokemon Go: 50 new Pokemon on the way

Niantic, the game developer behind Pokemon Go, has rolled out two updates to the augmented reality-based game, adding as much as 50 new Pokemon characters along with a new "dynamic real-world weather system".

The latest update for Pokemon GO will go live later this week with 50 Pokemon from generation three.

Niantic is going to release a series of "Pokemon GO" updates starting this week.

Also coming to Pokemon GO for the first time is real-world weather that will affect gameplay. The patch will go live later this week, and even more Gen 3 pokemon will join this initial batch in the following weeks. This will supposedly be geo-specific, meaning that, if it's raining or snowing in real life, those changes will be reflected in the game. Certain Pokemon will be more likely to appear in the weather that suits them the most, so Pokemon GO Trainers will be excited to learn more about their local weather patterns and ecology to find these rare Pokemon and make progress on their Pokedexes. These creatures were originated from "Pokemon Ruby" and "Pokemon Sapphire". They haven't named all of the Pokemon that they'll be adding, but they do mention Mudkip, Torchic, and Treecko. For example, your Charizard's Fire Spin will pack more of a punch when it's sunny outside.

Gen 3 Pokemon are coming!

Going on IGN to discuss some of Pokemon Go's newest features, Niantic's marketing lead, Archit Bhargava, went on to assure fans that the company still had plans to incorporate PvP and trading in Pokemon Go. Rather than releasing all 130 Hoenn Pokemon all at once, Niantic has chose to introduce this generation's Pokemon incrementally.

An in-game holiday event has also been confirmed, though details have yet to be released as of the time of this writing.
