Weather: Snow to the east, in snowbelt

Flurries with risk of snow squalls and local blowing snow continue today and accumulate local amounts of 10 to 15 cm.

Some snow shower activity may slip into extreme NE Ohio for a brief time, north of Route 322 today.

We are getting to the time of year that we talk about lake effect snow.

Madison could see a few snow flurries Wednesday night, but if you want to see more than that, go north.

According to the warning for Almaguin, issued at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, and updated at 3:14 p.m. on Wednesday, snow squalls are expected.

Forecasters said the greatest amounts of snow may be seen across central and southeast Jefferson County and northern portions of Lewis County.

The National Weather Service says the band of snow that formed earlier over the relatively warm waters of Lake Erie will stay in place for much of Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, causing low visibility and slick conditions.

Additional Eastern Snow Chances Ahead?

The best precipitation chances next week come Thursday with snow, about 24 hours later than our previous forecast.

First, a fast-moving area of low pressure could graze parts of the East Coast with light snow late this week.

Depending on its strength, track and timing, this system may be able to throw a little moisture back into the newly established cold air as far west as Southwest Virginia.

Boston, New York City and Philadelphia have not recorded measurable snow (0.1 inches or greater) yet this season. If we include areas that just see snowflakes through the day, coverage of this event can increase to 70%.
