YouTube Reveals Top Trending Videos Of 2017

Latino artists' popularity on YouTube is proof that they are massively popular in worldwide markets, even if they continue to face barriers to entry in mainstream music in the U.S. What's more, it points to the fact that Latino listeners have been shaping global pop music trends for some time (check pop's current obsession with dembow-lite riddims for proof).

As the name implies, the video features a look at some of the biggest cultural moments in 2017 for YouTube. The show, called The Mask Singer, requires performers to wear elaborate masks to hide their identities. Spotify kicked us off yesterday with custom playlists and more and now YouTube is following up their annual YouTube Rewind video. It's been produced in Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and China, but this particular video is from a Thailand show.

Google will have more than 10,000 workers address the problem by next year, though her blog post Monday doesn't say how many the company already has.

The future of Latino artists the mainstream US market remains to be seen, but it's obvious that our music continues to be more influential with every passing day.

YouTube has grappled with a series of controversies this year concerning videos available on its platform. Last year, the Carpool Karaoke clip starring Adele claimed the top spot. Advertisers who buy into these bad boys can't choose where their ads will go.

Luis Fonsi, left, and Daddy Yankee delivered YouTube's most-watched video ever, "Despacito".

Then, there's the "reserved inventory" ads - those which are purchased in advance and scheduled to appear on very specific video content (typically, top-performing channels).

And, if snagging top place wasn't good enough - Mick made it into the list twice, with the original upload of the song coming in at sixth. Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" was the most viewed music video with more than 4.4 billion views.
