Overwatch's Winter Wonderland event returns with new Mei content

Events like Winter Wonderland are important to a game like this because they keep players engaged and may convince some players to spend money on microtransactions.

It's that time of year: Overwatch's seasonal event for the holidays, Winter Wonderland, returns December 12 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, developer Blizzard Entertainment announced today. There will be plenty of new skins too, and Kaplan specifically hints at skins for Hanzo, Junkrat, and Roadhog. "I know a lot of you are thinking 'it sounds kind of silly and kind of ridiculous, ' and well, I'm here to tell you it absolutely is", says game director Jeff Kaplan in a video (seen below). However, the Black Forest map will also be decked up for the holiday season as well.

The starkest change is in the brawl that will be available in Arcade Mode this year.

While Winter Wonderland is a revival of last year's event, Blizzard is bringing some major new additions.

Winless Browns fire VP of football operations
It has become commonplace to see a firing of Browns personnel after disappointing seasons dating back to their return in 1999. Brown was named the team's top executive by the Haslams during an overhaul following the 2015 season.

The centerpiece of 2017's Winter Wonderland event is a wild new Arcade mode called Mei's Yeti Hunt, which Kaplan said was the result of Blizzard wanting to "try something different and fun". The familiar 6v6 "Mei's Snowball Offensive" will return (also playable on the Black Forest map), but it will be joined by the brand-new "Mei's Yeti Hunt". It's a six-player mode with five Meis pinned against a single Winston, who grows stronger the farther across the map he moves.

To celebrate Christmas, Overwatch Winter Wonderland returns. The big thing here is that a player will actually control the yeti, which is a powered up version of Winston. If the Meis kill Winston, they win.

Speaking of Mei, Blizzard is planning a new event around the snowy scientist.
