US State Department Issues New 'Worldwide Caution' After Jerusalem Move

Ben Shapiro said President Donald Trump's plan to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital is an act of "political bravery" and "moral courage".

Matt Lee, a diplomatic reporter for the Associated Press, noted on Twitter that such a warning was last issued in 2003 after the start of the Iraq War when the State Department believed an attack against US citizens by al-Qaida was imminent.

Hours before Pres. Trump's announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem issued an urgent warning Tuesday for American citizens visiting the country.

"We caution against the unsafe repercussions of this decision on the stability of the region and the world", an Iraqi government statement said.

There are more than 5,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, part of an worldwide coalition providing air and ground support in Iraqi forces' fight against Islamic State militants.

Nujaba, mostly made up of Iraqis, has about 10,000 fighters, according to Reuters data.

Al-Abadi called on the USA government to reverse that decision, because it can lead to an escalation of extremism and atmosphere conducive to terrorism around the world. Being a part of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), the group is considered to be one of the most important militias in Iraq. The PMF is government sanctioned and formally reports to Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's office. The president admitted the move will cause dissent, but says it could help resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict.

He did say that the Palestinian protests are concerning, but said that once emotions die down he believes there will be a better chance to negotiate between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Reacting to Wednesday's Washington speech, hundreds of Palestinians burned USA and Israeli flags as well as pictures of Trump in the Gaza Strip, while small clashes erupted near the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron.

Hamas has fought three wars with Israel since 2007.

Palestinian have demanded that part of Jerusalem be set aside as their capital and the global community has traditionally view Tel Aviv as the capital of Israel.
