Denver Nuggets' bench helps fuel road win at Orlando Magic

Gordon suffered a concussion during Friday's game against the Nuggets and will not return, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

After a first quarter where the Nuggets shot just 6-20 from the field and tallied only 14 points - one of Denver's worst scoring outputs over a 12-minute span this season - Beasley and Mudiay changed the game's momentum in the second. "I think we just said to ourselves, 'Let's do it like we do it at home.' It's just one win, but maybe it's the start of something good". "They just picked up the pressure on us and we couldn't score as a group". Elfrid Payton chipped in 11 points and six assists, but it was hardly enough on a night when the Magic offense mostly misfired.

Starter Will Barton had 19 points and six rebounds for Denver, and reserve Emmanuel Mudiay had 18 points.

"The story of the game, for me, was our defense", Nuggets coach Michael Malone said.

"Great energy, great productivity, great efficiency, " Malone said of his bench via Altitude TV. "Anytime you outscore your opponent 53-16, that's a great job by them". Denver had a 53-16 advantage in bench scoring en route to its second road victory since October 29.

Nikola Vucevic led the Magic with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Jonathan Simmons also scored 21 points, 11 of in the first quarter.

With Mudiay and Faried contributing 11 points each, Denver erased a 13-point deficit in the second quarter and led 49-48 at halftime. "We'll have five guys on the floor - capable National Basketball Association players who are here for a reason - and we've got to execute well enough offensively and defensively to get a 'W"'.

" a reliable 3-pointer shooter and you know if the ball finds him, he's going to knock it down", coach Frank Vogel said. "Mudlay, Faried, Beasley, those guys turned the game around".

After leading nearly the entire first half, the Magic faded badly in the second, scoring only 22 points in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth.

Magic forward Aaron Gordon left with a concussion shortly after colliding with Harris midway through the third quarter.

An MRI has confirmed that Orlando Magic swingman Evan Fournier sprained his right ankle, a team official said.

Tonight's win was Denver's first road victory in their last five games away from Pepsi Center. They gave up an average of 116.8 points in losing five of their preceding six road games.

"As soon as I saw him, I told him to take his time, " said Vucevic, who has blocked four shots in consecutive games for the first time in his career. "We weren't down early because of defense". He makes big shots for us constantly. They lost 15 straight here, a streak that ended in 2008.

Arron Afflalo, who is hoping to recapture the form he had four seasons ago while leading Orlando in scoring, got the start in place of Fournier, but couldn't get much going. For the Nuggets, this was game three of a six-game road trip.

The Magic play Saturday night in Atlanta.
