PDP Alleges Plans To Disrupt Its Convention

An Ex-minister of Mines and Steel, Wole Oyelese has accused the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike of plotting to destroy the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by supporting Uche Secondus for selfish reasons.

The Spokesperson for the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who made all these known while speaking with journalists at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, said the party's constitution should be used as a guide on the issue.

The aspirants are Prince Uche Secondus, Chief Gbenga Daniel, Mr Jimi Agbaje, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Prof.Taoheed Adedoja, Prof Tunde Adeniran, Chief Olabode George, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi and Mr Aderemi Olusegun.

Okowa who reiterated the readiness of his committee to conduct a credible and transparent convention, assured that adequate steps have been taken to secure the Eagles Square, venue of the convention. He will be part of this convention. He dismissed speculations that he had withdrawn from the race, expressing optimism that the convention would be hitch- free.

The South-South, until yesterday, was yet to show any sign it would compromise.

Responding, the Bauchi state the PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Akuyam, thanked the aspirant for the visit assuring that the state executives would meet with the delegates today with a view to making a unanimous decision on the candidates to vote during the convention. "In this circumstance, and without prejudice to the right of other aspirants to this national chairmanship position, credible and transparent election, we have chose to back and vote for Prince Uche Secondus for the position of national chairman of our great party".

"Subject to the provision of Section 8 (b), a member on probation shall have the right to attend all meetings of the party, but shall not be entitled to vote at such meetings, nor shall he be eligible to contest for elective office on the platform of the party".
