Winter Storm Watch for Parts of WNY

Winter Storm Watch for Parts of WNY

It goes into effect Sunday morning and will remain in effect until late Sunday night. The weather service said accumulation will be most persistent Sunday afternoon. However, another band of lake-effect snow will develop over the lake later and eventually move back on shore Sunday night across the east-side snow belt.

But some 6 to 10 inches could fall over Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and southern Erie counties from Sunday morning to late Sunday night, and travel conditions may be hard, the Weather Service said.

According to the watch, "Lake effect snow is expected [Sunday], but a more significant snowfall is expected Monday night through Wednesday afternoon". Lesser amounts, around 5 inches, are in the forecast for the Southtowns and Genesee county.

High pressure moves in by midday Monday, bringing an end to this first round of lake-effect.

Missile Tracking Exercises Scheduled Amid Nuclear Tension With North Korea
The announcement of the joint exercise comes less than two weeks after Pyongyang test-fired a ballistic missile. The Pentagon has mounted repeated shows of force after North Korean tests.

Another Michigan sized area of snow will move across Michigan Monday and Monday night.

But the break will be short-lived, as another, more potent system pulls into the Great Lakes region overnight Monday into Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch which is active from Monday evening through Wednesday afternoon for Geauga and southern Ashtabula Counties. Temperatures will reach around freezing with wind chills in the low 20's.
