Democrat Senator calls on Trump to resign

Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of NY told CNN on Monday that President Donald Trump should resign over allegations of sexual assault.

While the New York Senator thinks Trump should resign "immediately", she did say that Congress should step in and conduct an investigation if he refuses to do so.

"These allegations are credible; they are numerous", Gillibrand said.

"I've heard these women's testimony, and many of them are heartbreaking", Gillibrand, a Democrat, said on CNN's Amanpour.

Two other Democratic senators - Cory Booker of New Jersey and Jeff Merkley of OR - called for Trump's resignation over the weekend.

"Whether he will ever hold himself accountable is something you really can't hold your breath for", she said. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., in calling for Trump's resignation.

Last week, Gillibrand and five other Democratic women senators simultaneously called on Sen. Further, Gillibrand's remarks came one day after Trump's appointee to the United Nations, Ambassador Nikki Haley, said the women accusing Trump "should be heard".

Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations of the all the women who have accused him of various forms of abuse, ranging from groping to forcible kissing and more. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), women are no longer staying silent, Gillibrand said. "I think the congressional investigation is the only thing we can ask for". Ron Wyden of OR also commented on whether Trump should resign, encouraging Capitol Hill to investigate.
