Injured in Powerful Earthquake in SE Iran

In 2003, a 6.6-magnitude quake flattened the historic city of Bam, killing 26,000 people. The 20 damaged buildings were mostly older structures, state media reported.

More than 530 people were killed and thousands were injured in the massive tragedy of last Iran natural disaster. As per the reports, the rescue team present in the reason have not reported any damage to the property and casualties to the people.

It struck at 12:13 pm (0843 GMT) with the epicentre near the town of Hejdak, some 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of the provincial capital of Kerman and about 800 kilometres from Tehran.

President Hassan Rouhani has championed his government's work in bring aid and temporary housing to the victims of the deadly quake, but critics say the response was not quick enough.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Saberi said that so far, 17 people have been taken to hospitals in Kerman following the strong quake. As per the reports, Iranian Plateau is the subject of the most types of tectonic activity including faulting, volcanic eruptions and active folding.

Over 530 people were killed and thousands were injured in the disaster.
