Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, Klopp said: "If I would give the same interview now, I think the information I had to give would be the same".

Klopp sparked controversy (and disappointment) among Liverpool fans and pundits alike at the weekend, when he elected to drop the likes of Coutinho, Firmino and Emre Can from his starting lineup against their Merseyside rivals Everton.

"You look in the eyes of the journalists and you see they're not interested in what you feel, and I know that already, but sometimes it feels not too cool and that's why I reacted the way I did".

Klopp acknowledged that Salah, voted the BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2017 on Monday, is "not [injured] at the moment" and hoped that they "took him off early enough".

The result meant Liverpool remained in fourth spot with 30 points from 16 games, two points adrift of third-placed Chelsea and just a point and a place ahead of Arsenal.

Addressing the the contribution of his manager as his development as a player, Coutinho said: "He's helped me a lot".

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has suggested that he is enjoying the challenge of being used in a new position this season. We've tried to switch to a different style and I think that, bit-by-bit, I'm getting better with that and hopefully that can continue.

"We've changed how we play".

The Reds have been in devastating form in attack, scoring 34 goals in the Premier League so far.

And Klopp defended his decision, suggesting both Coutinho and Firmino needed the rest. This is one game we should have won they did not play.

"They play in a quite advanced position and the line that they play always creates those spaces for us with their movement".
