Amazon's Jeff Bezos is now the richest person in the world

Forbes, another publication that tracks the net worth of the world's richest people, also has Bezos in the top position with a net worth of $104.5 billion.

Amazon has delivered a big prize to its CEO Jeff Bezos, who is now the richest person on Earth. According to CNN, he owns 78.9 million shares of Amazon. Shares of Amazon have risen by nearly seven per cent this year after rising 56 per cent in 2017, reported money.cnn.com. That is about 17 per cent of the online book-selling company that he founded in a Seattle garage in 1994. For example, he made roughly $1.4 billion in gains Monday when Amazon stock climbed almost 1.5%.

Bezos also holds shares in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, a privately-owned space travel business he eventually intends to take willing tourists to space. He's now the richest person in history, dethroning former record-holder Bill Gates.

Gates is now worth $91.9 billion according to Forbes, and $93.3 billion by Bloomberg.

That eclipses the record previously held by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who is now in second place with a net worth of $93.3 billion. If adjusted for inflation, that cumulative total would now be over $144 billion in 2018. Had he held on to that money, his net worth today would be well over $150 billion.
