British PM May to reshuffle cabinet, appoint new ministers

Theresa May today announced her much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle, viewed as a vital part of her bid to find a way back from last year's election disaster.

The Cabinet's biggest beasts, Amber Rudd, Philip Hammond, Boris Johnson and David Davis, were all expected to keep their jobs, "possibly because May has decided there is more risk in moving them than in keeping them in place", says Blanchard.

Her first act was to replace the Tory party chairman Sir Patrick McLoughlin as punishment for having spearheaded a poor campaign in the general election in June past year when the number of Conservative MPs slipped from 331 to 318, thereby depriving the Prime Minister of an overall majority in the 650-seat House of Commons. Brandon Lewis was promoted, becoming the chairman of the Conservative Party, replacing veteran politician Patrick McLoughlin who resigned from the government.

It should not have taken last June's ill-advised election, and seven months of muddle, for the Conservatives - once the natural party of government - to realise that their electoral machine was unfit for goal; that the party's structures were not emblematic of multi-cultural Britain and they could not counter the populism espoused by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn because they simply didn't know how to communicate in the modern age.

It was Theresa May's first major reshuffle since taking office in 2016.

As the ministerial shake-up got under way, the official Conservatives Twitter account incorrectly tweeted an image appearing to confirm Mr Grayling's appointment at around 11.40am.

At 11.43, A Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) staffer allegedly saw the BBC report and assumed it was correct, tweeting it from the @Conservatives account. "I have had a very good run and I enjoyed it immensely".

Sir Patrick McLoughlin, the outgoing Conservative party chairman, has confirmed that he has left the cabinet.

THE CONSERVATIVE party has been mocked as "humiliated and weak" following a series of embarrassing gaffes during a cabinet reshuffle.

Lewis has served as Minister of State for Immigration since June 2017, and was elected as MP for Great Yarmouth in 2010.

THERESA MAY ordered a total overhaul of the Tories busted war machine with a burst of new blood in key party roles.
