Governor's Council announces 2018 Service and Celebration Activities

All City of Jasper offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

A youth oratorical contest and a concert at the Mosaic Templar's Cultural Center are among the events scheduled for the week leading up to Mega Kingfest on Monday, January 15, at the North Little Rock High School Performing Arts Center.

The theme of this observance is "Peace and Equality: A Dream for All People".

The yearlong planning by a group of Penn State students and faculty members, as well as members of the greater State College community, begins with the national MLK Jr.

The theme of this year's MLK memorial celebrations is "Living the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.in Evansville and in". All are welcome to participate by signing up at volunteer.psu.edu.

The event, which is free to the public, is an opportunity to honor the accomplishments of King and his work with the civil rights movement.

The Southeast's largest Martin Luther King holiday celebration kicks off this weekend. 4 p.m. Celebration of the black experience through opera, musical Broadway and spirituals ad art songs.

The culmination of the day's activities will be the evening program at 6 p.m.at the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Association Center, 801 Central Blvd., Guyton.

The week commences with the Evening Celebration on Friday, Jan. 19, at Schwab Auditorium. Tickets will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis when doors open at 5:30 p.m. Seales is known for taking serious topics and making them relatable and interesting through humor.
