Trump proposes $18000 million for wall with Mexico

President Trump is reportedly set to make a visit to San Diego to take a look at the border wall prototypes.

This month, President Donald Trump is ratcheting up demands that Congress include his border wall in a package to provide legal status for hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the country illegally as children. A visit planned for this week was canceled after an opportunity arose to attend the Georgia - Alabama college championship game in Atlanta.

His administration asked for $1.6 billion this year to build or replace 74 miles of fencing in Texas and California, and officials have said they also will seek $1.6 billion next year.

The US crackdown on immigration intensified on Monday as the Department of Homeland Security announced that 200,000 immigrants from El Salvador should leave the country.

"If you only build a wall, only a 'wall, ' without using technology, individuals, drones, observations, etc., you're not going to secure the border", Sen.

According to the Wall Street Journal, that $18 billion is just part of $33 billion in overall border security measures, which include drones and more agents.

The Trump administration has proposed spending $18 billion over 10 years to significantly extend the border wall with Mexico, providing one of its most detailed blueprints of how the president hopes to carry out a signature campaign pledge.

Trump signaled last fall that, although he was adamant that lawmakers beef up border security, funding for a wall did not have to be tied to the dreamer issue. Republicans are at risk of losing the majority they've held in the House since 2011, and could also lose seats in the Senate, though many more Democratic incumbents are up for re-election this year. "With this demand, he seems to be heading in that direction", said Senator Richard Durbin of IL, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee.

After a three-day visit in Xian, Macron and his delegation of some 60 business executives and officials will travel to China's capital.

Alabama Democrat Doug Jones was sworn in last week, which leaves Republicans with just 51 votes in the Senate.

In an acknowledgement of the Senate's new political math - in which Republicans now control one fewer seat after the election of Doug Jones (D-Ala.) - GOP leaders are pledging to work across the aisle.

Whether he ends DACA or builds his horrendous wall, Trump's motives are clear: Make the entry way into the US narrower for non-white immigrants.

During his campaign, Trump promised to build a "huge and handsome wall" with Mexico, but he has provided few details about dates, cost and location.

"Ending chain migration may be more impactful policy, but he understands the power of the wall as a concept and in terms of the way he and his presidency will be perceived and judged".

Trump spent much of Friday and Saturday morning hashing out his 2018 agenda with GOP House and Senate leaders, top White House aides and select Cabinet members at the presidential retreat at Camp David. "The notion of a wall is a giant symbol that is not based on analysis in any way of whether we should do something about the border", said Cecilia Muñoz, a longtime immigrant rights advocate who served as Obama's domestic policy adviser.

Trump's border wall is perhaps the most complex of the president's pending campaign promises, and it involves building and buying property in areas where construction would be hard.
