Dell's New Latitude 2-in-1 Laptops Are Big On Security

Dell's New Latitude 2-in-1 Laptops Are Big On Security

Alongside the refreshed Latitude lines, Dell has the new portable SSD that comes in two models - Dell SD1-T0500 with 500GB and Dell SD1-T1000 with 1TB storage.

Much of the XPS 15 remains the same with this year's update, though. The Dell Latitude 5490, on the other hand, comes with 14-inch HD WLED, 14-inch FHD WVA, and 14-inch FHD WVA touchscreen display options, while the Dell Latitude 5590 is available in 15.6-inch HD WLED, 15.6-inch FHD WVA, and 15.6-inch FHD WVA touchscreen display options. The 15 will only have touchscreen options and uses a larger 15.6-inch panel. But given the different size and graphics, the XPS 15 2-in-1 will likely be a better fit for designers and power users than the regular XPS 13. Further, the upgraded notebook family has an Nvidia GeForce MX130 and Intel HD/UHD 620 graphics options. Both the model come with an optional Active Pen support that uses Wacom technology to enable "natural writing" experience.

Dell XPS 15 will have Intel 8th-gen core i5 and i7 processor variants with Radeon RX Vega M GL (4GB) graphics on both of them and up to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Unlike the traditional Dell XPS 15 laptop, there's no magnetic hard drive option.

The Latitude 5290 2-in-1 comes with a built-in auto-deploy kickstand that allows the user to set up the device with one hand an offers the option for multi-factor authentication including touch fingerprint reader, contacted FIPS 201 Smart Card Reader, and contactless smart card reader with Control Vault 2™ FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification.

Foldy, flippy laptops that double as tablets are typically svelte slices of metal and megabytes, but not so for Dell's XPS 15 2-in-1. The result is what Dell calls the "world's most secure detachable 2-in-1", and the "world's most secure convertible 2-in-1". The keyboard mechanism is similar to the Maglev trains at various airports. Dell had launched the current-gen XPS 15 (9560) in India several months after its debut in the U.S. previous year. A Windows Hello-ready IR camera and a finger print reader integrated into the power button provide the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 with ample biometric security options.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 will be available in the U.S. from April 2018 at a starting price of $1,299 (approximately Rs82,674). The devices spot an InfinityEdge 4K Ultra HD display with vivid colour and cinematic immersion in an impossibly slim 16mm form, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

You can't do this with a MacBook Pro 15.
