Gerrit Cole Trade Rumors: Astros, Pirates Talks 'Gaining Momentum'

The Yankees miss out on righthander Gerrit Cole.

It has been a historically slow offseason for most Major League Baseball teams and free agents, but the Houston Astros quickly pulled together a trade for Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole.

Morosi tweeted that talks between the Astros and the Pirates were "imminent".

Cole has a 59-42 record and career 3.50 ERA with the Pirates, and has recorded 734 strikeouts. The Astros would appear set to open the season with a rotation of Dallas Keuchel, Justin Verlander, Cole, Lance McCullers and Charlie Morton if the trade is completed.

The committee of MPs said the industry should be given five years to make the cups easy to recycle or face an outright ban. He was labelled a hypocrite after being pictured with throwaway coffee cups last month in spite of his war on waste.

Gerrit Cole was drafted by the Pirates with the first overall pick in 2011, and spent the last 5 years as a starter in Pittsburgh. He also pitched over 200 innings in 2015.

Though Cole is coming off his worst season - 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA in 33 starts - he is capable of being an elite starter.

NY also has been linked in media reports to free agents Yu Darvish and Alex Cobb. The Yankees already re-signed CC Sabathia to a one-year, $10 million contract this offseason.
