INEC releases Official 2019 Election Time-table (FULL DETAILS)

The Independent National Electoral Commission said this on Tuesday in a timetable of the upcoming polls.

While political parties and candidates seeking to contest for Governorship and State Assembly elections should commence campaigns on December 1, 2018 and end on February 28, 2019.

It is understood that the presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 16 while governorship and State Assembly elections will be conducted on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

The INEC boss said the commission would conduct elections for 1,558 constituencies made up of one presidential constituency, 29 governorship constituencies out 36 states, 109 senatorial districts, 360 federal constituencies, 991 state assembly constituencies, six area council chairmen as well as 62 councilor ship positions for the FCT.

Mr. Yakubu said that the conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from primaries for national and state elections has been slated for between August 18 and 2018 to October 7, 2018.

He, however, assured the gathering that INEC is capable to meet the challenges of grappling with 105,944 candidates as a result of increase in the numbers of political parties that would be participating in the 2019 general elections.

He also said that the collection of nomination forms for the FCT Area Council elections would commence on November 3 and end on November 10, while the last date for the return of the nomination forms is December 14.

Potential state capture inquiry witnesses want to see terms of reference
President Jacob Zuma has announced a commission of inquiry into allegations of State Capture. He selected Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Mnyamezeli Mlungisi Zondo to undertake this task.

He explained that the commission in compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court has registered the Socialist Party of Nigeria ( SPN ) bringing the number of new political parties to 22 in addition to 46 parties already in existence.

All the duly filled forms for Presidential and National Assembly candidates are to be submitted latest by October 18 and forms for governorship and state assemblies to be sent in by November 2.

He added that the commission needed the support and cooperation of all stakeholders to succeed, saying the commission expects full adherence to the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act which formed basis of the timetable.

The letter drew the attention of the INEC boss to the December 13, consent judgment of J‎ustice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, which declared their client (Okonkwo) as victor of the Anambra Central Senatorial district, and which has not been set aside.

He also said the commission would this week issue registration certificates to new political parties.
