Qualcomm to launch smart speaker development kit

Qualcomm will also showcase smart speakers at their CES booth with all major assistants in action.

Unveiled last June, the Qualcomm Smart Audio Platform already supports Amazon Alexa and Google voice interfaces. Today, at the CES 2018, Qualcomm has launched a new platform for smart devices such as smart speakers, displays, and other that come with built-in support for Google Assistant. At the Consumer Electronics Show on Monday, Qualcomm also announced plans to make Cortana part of its Smart Audio platform.

"Our Smart Audio Platform helps allow traditional speaker OEMs to more efficiently join and participate in the growing smart speaker segment".

What we understand here is that Cortana is all set to empower devices made up by Qualcomm.

CEO Elon Musk has promised the roofs would last significantly longer than traditional shingles, due to their rugged construction. Comparatively, opting for the Tesla roof is more expensive than using traditional materials, but not by an overwhelming margin.

The kit has a Wi-Fi certified SoM (System-on-Module) created to integrate key system components in a single module at lower costs.

Interestingly, the development kit offers a reference design for smart speaker devices.

Synaptics: This ODM (original design manufacturer) and far-field voice processing vendor produces reference designs for consumer IoT, smart speakers, PC and more that are integrate Cortana. To boost its market share, Microsoft is planning to jointly build smart audio platform with Qualcomm.

The technology company is enabling, through the integration of Qualcomm Aqstic and Microsoft's digital assistant Cortana, voice recognition capabilities in the platform to create seamless voice-driven experiences in the home. Additionally, Qualcomm Technologies is expanding the range of products that support the Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform, beyond networking infrastructure to include smart speakers, smoke detectors, security systems, and smart bulbs.
