Ford Edge ST arrives with 335 horsepower

Prices haven't been released yet, but Ford expects the new Edge to be in United Kingdom dealers in a year, so expect to see it early in 2019. The Focus ST formally introduced Americans to FoMoCo's high performance program and the Fiesta ST built on the popularity of the Focus, offering go-fast-fans two different options when shopping for a small, high performance vehicle.

Ford will also be offering it with the 3.5-liter V6 engine that will be delivering about 280hp.The Edge ST will also get all the ST specs setting as well as the aero pack, dual exhaust tips, 21inch wheels and more.

The Edge ST spearheads the facelifted 2019 Edge lineup, which gets both styling and equipment tweaks. But it should handle with loads more poise and panache.

All wheel-drive is standard on the ST and gets help from a water-cooled transfer unit in order to help horsepower and all 380 lb-ft of torque find the grippiest tire.

The new Edge comes standard with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that offers a 5 horsepower increase and improved fuel economy over the outgoing model.

Today FCA announces an additional $1 billion investment with the decision to follow through and make the move a reality. With the investment, the company said, Warren Truck would have the flexibility to also produce the Ram Heavy Duty.

Pricing for the Edge ST hasn't been announced, but the current Edge Sport starts at $41,670, so it will likely sticker for least that much. Paddle shifters are included standard, and when in Sport mode they'll be handy as the automatic gearbox calibration will hold gears at redline during cornering manoeuvres to avoid unwanted upshifts.

Of course, those cars all fall short of the eminent "ST" designation on performance, which the 2019 Ford Edge ST has very little risk of doing.

The 2019 model comes standard with forward-collision warning, dynamic-brake support, pre-collision assist, pedestrian detection, blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping alert and assist, automatic high beams and hill-start assist. Other upgrades include an ST-tuned sport suspension and an available performance brake package. The ST is further distinguished from the rest of the Edge family by various black exterior trim elements, including deeper rocker panels, the black mesh grille, the black-painted 21-inch wheels, and sporty bucket seats with deeper torso and thigh bolsters.

On the outside, the Edge ST features a unique front fascia that bears a striking resemblance to the ST-brand cars. There's a host of driver assist features too, because that's just as important as anything else now: Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering should keep things tickety boo, Evasive Steering Assist is there if something goes skew-whiff and then Post-Collision Braking for when it all goes to pot.

There's a new onboard WiFi system capable of connecting to as many as 10 different wireless devices, even if you're outside the vehicle, say, for a tailgate party.
