Frances McDormand Offers to Buy Fellow Nominees Tequila After Golden Globes Win!

Mother-daughter comedy "Lady Bird" was named best comedy film and the indie A24 movie's star Saoirse Ronan won for comedy actress.

Other women who spoke out about the Time's Up initiative, and the #MeToo movement, included Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Nicole Kidman of Big Little Lies, which won four awards, and Frances McDormand, who was named Best Actress in a Drama for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Martin McDonagh picked up the best screenplay trophy for Three Billboards.

His win reportedly marked the second time an actor of South Asian descent has won a Golden Globe in 35 years.

The evening began with the normally colorful red carpet transformed into a sea of black gowns as actresses showed solidarity with victims of sexual harassment inside and outside the entertainment industry.

The Amazon series from the creators of Gilmore Girls, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also finished strong, taking home awards for best television series - musical or comedy, while awarding Rachel Brosnahan as best actress. The HBO limited series also won the top prize for Best Miniseries or TV Movie. Franco portrays that film's director, Tommy Wiseau, and he invited Wiseau on stage at the Beverly Hilton to share in the honor.

Del Toro said he has made a career of crafting monster-oriented fables, at least three of which he said have "saved my life". "I wouldn't be here. without my crew", he said, before giving a shout-out to "a few fantastic women" that included Hawkins, Octavia Spencer and his co-scribe Vanessa Taylor. McDormand made the audience burst into laughter with her amusing acceptance speech.

"Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have", Oprah said. "I do believe and hope that we can elicit change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them".
