Macron urges European Union to take coordinated stance on trade with China

Macron, who has become the leading voice of the European Union, endorsed President Xi Jinping's massive $1 trillion program to revive ancient Silk Road trading routes during his three-day trip.

Both leaders believe the China-France relations extend far beyond the bilateral scope and will have global significance.

Airbus Chief Operating Officer Fabrice Bregier said that the current build rate at the Tianjin construction plant will increase from four planes a month.

Among a string of business deals with China Macron secured during his visits, cooperation deals on nuclear and aviation were framed as means to tackle climate change by some Chinese observers.

French beef producers on Tuesday hailed a deal reached by President Emmanuel Macron and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to end China's 2001 embargo on French beef.

Macron came to China with some 50 business leaders, including the heads of European aerospace giant Airbus and French state nuclear energy company Areva.

Macron forged the slogan - an echo of USA president Donald Trump's "make America great again" - a year ago to show his continued support for the Paris Agreement in the face of Trump's decision to withdraw the US.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday he hopes to forge a partnership with China on climate, security and other issues during a visit to expand European ties with Beijing. Asked if his ministry would from now on screen Chinese investments, Le Maire said: "Yes, and I reject many".

"I propose to President Xi a French-Chinese year of ecological transition in 2018-2019 to mobilise our companies, our start-ups, our cities, our regions, to show the world that we, French and Chinese, are capable of making our planet great and handsome again". He was formally handed a second term and his name was enshrined in the party's constitution. He brought along a delegation of corporate leaders and praised Mr. Xi's plan for massive infrastructure spending to promote trade and economic development across Eurasia and Africa.

"Overall it will be very tough for France to achieve its objective (balancing the deficit), much like (U.S. President) Donald Trump has struggled to balance trade as well".

Accompanied by students from the French worldwide school, Mr Macron and his wife Brigitte walked through the imperial palaces of the Forbidden City.
