MI offensive analyst Scott Turner reportedly joining Carolina Panthers as QBs coach

The Panthers have hired Norv Turner as their new offensive co-ordinator. Turner had been either a coordinator or head coach in every year since 1991, when he was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys.

Turner returns to the coaching ranks for the first time since stepping down as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings in November 2016.

The father-son tandem will join two other members of the family - offensive assistant Ron Turner (Norv's brother) and assistant quarterbacks coach Cameron Turner (Norv's nephew) - in what will become arguably the most interesting offensive coaching setup in the NFL.

Scott, who is 35-years-old, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Oregon State in 2005.

The Ducks dominated the paint, outscoring Arizona State 38-16 inside and scoring 15 second-chance points on 15 offensive rebounds. Nowell carried Washington in the first half with 11 points and he got help from his supporting cast in the final 20 minutes.

The Panthers on Tuesday fired offensive coordinator Mike Shula and quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey. He was hired as Washington's head coach in 1994 and led the Redskins for seven seasons.

Turner will be expected to spark to a Panthers offense with dynamic playmakers in Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey that was criticized as often being predictable under Shula's watch. He was sacked after winning just nine games in two seasons, but jumped across the Bay in 2006 to be the 49ers' offensive coordinator.

The Vikings were 5-2 when Norv Turner resigned in 2016, and he'll have another chance to build on his National Football League legacy and do so with one of the best athletes the quarterback position's ever seen. He led San Diego to three straight AFC West titles, but did not win a playoff game and was sacked following the 2012 season.

After initially giving Shula a vote of confidence on Monday, Panthers coach Ron Rivera fired him a day later saying that the team's offense needed a "different perspective" and "different ideas" going forward. While in San Diego, Turner employed Rivera as his defensive coordinator before the Panthers hired him as head coach in 2011.
