Militant Groups Using Drones As Weapon

Russian forces were able to overpower radio signals for some of the drones and gain control of them during the attacks overnight on January 5-6, a statement said.

Alhamrat Street in Tartus, Syria, where Russian Federation keeps a military air base.

13 drones with Global Positioning System capabilities were sent after the Russian airbase at Hmeimim and the port at Tartus.

It is noted that in connection with this incident, the Russian Defense Ministry had sent letters to the Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, Gen. Hulusi Akar, and Head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization, Hakan Fidan.

But while Turkey backs the opposition, Russian Federation and Iran support Syrian President Bashar Assad. The Russian Defense Ministry denied any of its aircraft were lost, but it acknowledged that two troops died in the shelling.

Russian Federation said that a recent drone attack against its military base in Syria would not have been possible without assistance from a country possessing satellite navigation technology.

The Khmeimim has found itself under attack on a number of occasions as the conflict in Syria rages on, with two Russian military personnel killed during a mortar attack on New Year's Eve.

Of the 13 drones used in the attacks, seven were destroyed while the six others were intercepted by the Russian army, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

North Carolina congressional districts ruled illegally gerrymandered
Currently, despite the near-even partisan split in the state , Republicans hold 13 of Pennsylvania's 18 House seats. North Carolina Republicans have gotten quite good at this, as evidenced by the state's 2016 election returns .

It was reportedly the single largest loss of Russian military equipment since Vladimir Putin ordered Russian forces into Syria in September 2015.

"Iran and Russian Federation need to carry out their responsibilities. We have exerted so many efforts and we can not waste them".

The drones nonetheless represent the first time such a weapon has been used in Syria in this way.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused Syrian government forces of attacking moderate opposition fighters under the guise of fighting extremists and said the move threatened peace talks scheduled in Russian Federation later this month.

Cavusoglu said 95 percent of the violations in Idlib were carried out by the regime and the groups backing the regime.

The coastal Hmeimim airbase is at the core of Russia's war effort in Syria.

It conveyed "uneasiness" to the Russian ambassador Tuesday, calling the strikes a "violation of the borders of the Idlib de-escalation zone" established by Turkey, Iran and Russia, according to sources at the foreign ministry.

"Given Turkey's deteriorating relationship with the United States, it [would be odd] for Turkey to lash out at Russia", Gorenburg said.
