Mini hatch gets 'patriotic' midlife makeover

As befitting a modern MINI, the range of options for personalisation has grown further as well.

The MINI 3-Door Hatch comes with a choice of five engines (four petrol, one diesel) including the new 1.5 litre petrol, the MINI 5-door gets a choice of four engines (three petrol, one diesel) and the MINI Convertible comes only with three petrol options. Three new body finished for the cars include Emerald Gray metallic, Starlight Blue metallic, and Solaris Orange metallic.

Perhaps the most noticeable update will be the new LED tail lamps with the Union Jack design, which were created as a supplement to the new LED headlights.

The existing engines go largely unchanged, but the entry-level 1.2-litre petrol engine has been dropped in favour of a less potent version of the 1.5-litre turbo petrol that's already used on higher trim levels.

Inside, there's a new leather seat upholstery and a piano black package for the doors, centre console and instrument panel.

Vivo Launches First In - Screen Fingerprint Scanner
At CES 2018 , we saw Vivo launching the world's first phone with a fingerprint scanner that has been built into the display. When fingerprint recognition is not required, the UI will be invisible and will not disrupt the overall visual experience.

On the diesel front, the MINI range comprises three variants with outputs ranging from 95 hp to 170 hp, and each is mated to an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Elsewhere, customers can choose from three new exterior colours, plus some fresh alloy wheel designs. All of the new models can also be customized via the new Mini Yours Customised program we talked about before.

Connectivity continues as a theme for the 2019 upgrades, with available real-time traffic information via 4G LTE, Apple CarPlay, and the Mini Connected app now integrating navigation and calendaring.

Under the skin, the arrival of a new seven-speed DCT gearbox promises faster gear changes and a slight improvement in economy, which can be specced on MINI One, MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S and MINI Cooper D. The freshened Minis are expected to begin arriving in showrooms in the first quarter of the new year.

Expanding its scope on the style front, the MINI Yours Customised range offers personalisation options via an online shop, for items such as side scuttles, decorative strips for the interior on the passenger side, LED door sill finishers and LED door projectors.
