Mom of coolest monkey model: Get over it

Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer The Weeknd has chose to cut ties with Swedish multinational clothing-retail company H&M after the brand featured an image of a black child wearing a hoodie that read "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle" on its website.

After many celebs voiced their disappointment with the brand and withdrew their collaborations, H&M issued an apology.

"Maybe it's just one of those mistakes that one makes". "We, who work at H&M, can only agree". Until such a time that statistics like this are not the case, we must continue to try harder and do better; and the image from H&M falls into this category too. We have removed the image from all our channels and the sweater is no longer for sale in our stores. "I get pples opinion, but they are not mine", Mango continued. These offenses are more about the makeup of the rooms where they happen, than the items they produce. "I think they are using this as an advertising tactic, because now the black community is involved and upset, I mean look at all the tweets and retweets on Twitter".

The advertisement in question was that on H&M's United Kingdom website.

The backlash to the ad campaign was swift, with celebrities including Questlove and LeBron James calling out H&M for being racially insensitive.

To add to the confusion, Jallow has since claimed Terry has changed her mind and plans to "take action" against H&M.

This is the kind of thing that lets you know that no people of color were around or consulted in the marketing of this product. We've not really decided what we want - we want to hear from them [H&M] first, then we can go out with a press release. The image showed a version of the boy with a crown on his head with an updated slogan on his hoodie which read, "Coolest king in the world". Never shopped with you ever... not even for Tshirts '.

On Tuesday, sInger and songwriter, The Weeknd, who has had two collaborations with the company chose to cut ties after the photo was released.

"The collateral damage of this corporate, colonial mind-state occurs several times a year", he said on Instagram posting a picture of the H&M board of directors, "and it's predictable the world over, like the seasons, so when I laid eyes on it, my initial reaction was neither shock nor anger".
