Scholar missing from JNU

On October 15, 2016, Ahmed was spotted getting into an autorickshaw on the campus, allegedly after a scuffle at his hostel with activists from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's students' wing. Jain was last seen on a CCTV camera near the east gate of the varsity at 12.30pm on Monday.

CCTV footage showed that Jain had walked out of the east gate and probably boarded a vehicle.

According to JNU authorities, the student was not registered with them but has been working under a co-guide there.

The skirmish began when the two started shoving each other while waiting for the ball to be inbounded under the Miami basket. Tuesday night against the Miami Heat showed a different side to Canada's only National Basketball Association franchise.

Jain's friends say that he had gone to laboratory number 408 with a laptop and was scanning through some books when he received a call from someone and left in a hurry, leaving the laptop and the phone on the desk.

Director of the Research Unit at IGNOU, Kaustuva Barik, said, "Jain is a PhD student registered with IGNOU". A missing report was registered. "His family members have not requested for an FIR but we have some clues, which we are analysing", said DCP (southwest) Milind Dumbere. "There is no suspect in this case", a police officer said. Typically, Jain would commute from Ghaziabad to the JNU campus in South Delhi on a daily basis. He did not show any sign of trouble or anxiety when he left home on Monday. He is roughly my age and is quite frank. "I was informed about the case by the guide that the student has gone missing".

The JNU Students' Union met JNU administration and Police regarding the matter and have requested everyone to be more vigilant. "We have nothing to do with it", said JNU spokesperson Poonam Srivastava.
