Trains to Nottingham delayed after huge fire breaks out at station

"Unfortunately the fire is spreading to the roof void of the new section of the train station, and it's now travelling across the main concourse area across the main lines into Nottingham train station".

Flames were spotted by shocked eyewitnesses and smoke has filled the foyer area.

"We expect trains to be disrupted on all routes through Nottingham for the whole of Friday 12 January", said East Midlands Trains, which is the main operator at the station.

Nottingham train station has been evacuated this morning after a major fire began at around 6.30am, causing huge disruption.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service Tweeted: "The cause of this fire has not yet been established - current focus is dealing with the incident and keeping everyone safe".

The company said its tickets will be accepted on Virgin Trains East Coast, Virgin Trains, Transpennine Express, CrossCountry, London Midland and Greater Anglia services. "The early indications are that it will remain closed for the rest of the day".

Emergency services believe everyone inside the building escaped unharmed.

A cordon was in place around the building and trains were stopped from entering or leaving the building, triggering travel chaos across the country.

"There is also extensive fire damage to the wooden bridge area which goes across Platforms 6 and 7".

Nottingham station has been evacuated after a large blaze broke out.

Furthermore, there have been road closures around the station with Notts Police tweeting: 'Station St, Carrington St & Queen's Rd are closed use to a fire at #Nottingham Train Station.

"Passengers are advised to check www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk for the latest travel information".
