Blue Jays avoid arbitration with OF Carrera and LHP Loup

In a roundabout way, the 26-year-old's wish will be granted when he's communicating directly with the Toronto Blues Jays front office in an arbitrator's hearing room in Phoenix next month after not being able to come to terms on a contract prior to Friday's deadline to exchange arbitration numbers.

The 2015 American League MVP is coming off a relatively underwhelming year by his own high standards, and was limited to only 113 games by multiple injuries. He began the year hot, hitting four home runs in April, his high for any single month of the year.

Donaldson earned $17 million last year in the final season of a $28.65 million, two-year deal.

Blue Jays pitchers and catchers report on Feb kick off Spring Traing, with position players arriving February 19 for physicals. He should, however, remain a top of trade talks as the season progresses.

It was a busy day for the Blue Jays, who signed five players to one-year deals to avoid arbitration.

Health officials: 15 deaths, 'high level' of hospitalizations reported from flu
H3N2-dominant flu seasons are associated with more severe illness, especially among children and older adults. In each of the past several flu seasons, at least 100 children have died, according to CDC data.

Toronto also agreed Friday to one-year deals with outfielder Ezequiel Carrera ($1.9 million) and left-hander Aaron Loup ($1,812,500).

"I let my people handle it".

Toronto's other arbitration eligible players are right-handers Dominic Leone, Roberto Osuna, Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman, outfielder Kevin Pillar and second baseman Devon Travis.

"We definitely still have flexibility and we definitely have room to make moves whether that be via free agency or trade and I feel like we're in a good position to make our team better", Atkins said.
