Boat with 40 school children capsizes in Dahanu, rescue operations underway

As per the latest report 4 children are dead, 25 have been rescued out of the 40 students who were on board on the boat that capsized. There are around 40 students in a boat out of which 32 have successfully rescued.

In a similar incident on January 1, three children went missing while six others swam to safety when a country boat capsized in the Ganga in Bhagalpur district of Bihar.

All the students belonged to Babubhai Junior College near Par Naka in Dahanu, an area in Maharashtra's Palghar district that is about 110 kilometers from Mumbai.

'All our local officers and staff are on the spot. Dornier aircraft and helicopters from Daman have been launched as part of the rescue operations. The school is said to be KL Ponda high school from Dahanu.

The location is around 20 miles off the Dahanu Coast, a spokesperson of Coast Guard said. According to eye witnesses, the boat was overcrowded and the students were not wearing life jackets.
