Donald Trump: No journey to London due to embassy alternative

"Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!" tweeted.

A Trump visit has been on the cards since British Prime Minister Theresa May visited the United States a few days after Trump's inauguration past year.

The decision to relocate the embassy was also taken by the administration of George Bush Jr in 2007, not during the Obama era, as asserted by Trump.

Trump said he was abandoning next month's trip because he did not like the location and cost of the new embassy building.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that US President Donald Trump had "got the message" from Londoners after cancelling his visit to the city.

The official drew a distinction between the State visit, which would include a visit with Queen Elizabeth II and royal trappings like a horse parade, and a working visit, that would include a meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May and other diplomatic formalities like opening the embassy.

The Washington Post notes the billion-dollar construction bill was entirely funded through the sale of the old embassy and other U.S. -owned properties in London.

Writing in London's Evening Standard newspaper, Johnson said the move from central London to Nine Elms, next to Battersea, was forced by security concerns after 11 September.

Even 's biggest supporters suggested that protests played a role in his decision not to visit.

"We are still working with our United Kingdom allies to find a date for a visit for the invitation that was offered and accepted, " she said Friday. The uproar came after Trump re-tweeted three anti-Muslim videos posted by a leader of the far-right group Britain First - a tiny group that regularly posts inflammatory videos.

The exchange prompted further calls to dump the visit.

The comment initially seemed to take No 10 by surprise and a spokesman initially dismissed the idea that Khan had damaged relations: "No, the United States and the UK are natural resilient strong partners and allies and we do more together than any two countries in the world".

"It appears that President Trump got the message from the many Londoners who love and admire America and Americans but find his policies and actions the polar opposite of our city's values of inclusion, diversity, and tolerance", Khan said in a statement.

There has been speculation that his visit would result in mass protests, so people have been responding online with their own very serious reasons for not visiting London.
