LaLiga wrap: Zidane under more pressure as Villarreal beat Real Madrid

They continued to probe and after the ball was played to Marcelo in space on the left, his strike from distance was only denied a goal by a fine save from Asenjo.

Catching Barcelona at the top of La Liga was already a pipe dream, but despite a markedly improved performance, Real couldn't find a way past the inspired Sergio Asenjo before Pablo Fornals produced a sucker punch for Villarreal two minutes from time. It's a hard moment for us.

Villarreal slowly grew into the game as the second half progressed and capitalised on Real's desperation to try and win the game by outnumbering Zidane's side on the break after clearing Toni Kroos's corner.

"We have the cup this week and we are very excited to keep fighting".

The host had most of the chances under steady rain, but Villarreal also threatened a few times before Fornals found the net.

Ronaldo almost scored from close range just before halftime, but his shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who was also jeered, hit the crossbar from a free kick in the first half after the ball deflected off the wall. In the 14th minute Gareth Bale thought he had scored the opening goal when he latched on to Ronaldo's header across the small box, but his finish was ruled out for offside. Fornals picked up the loose ball just outside the area and chipped it over the goalkeeper for the stunning victor.

Michiana Girl Scouts to begin annual cookie sale
Abilene area girl scouts are expected to pick up more than 50,000 packages of cookies Saturday to kick-off the 2018 season. Some troops use it to pay their registration for the next year, some use it to buy uniforms, some use it to travel.

A counterattacking opportunity arose in the final moments, and the visitors took full advantage as Fornals chipped a rebound over Keylor Navas for the dramatic victor.

Saturday's embarrassing slip-up means the team has just one win in their past five games, a 3-0 Copa del Rey victory at Segunda side Numancia.

David de Gea played 22 games and missed 16 goals in the current season of Premier League.

Third-placed Valencia were visiting Deportivo La Coruna later on Saturday.

"We played the type of match we needed", Atletico coach Diego Simeone said.

At the other end of the table, basement club Las Palmas were hammered 6-0 by Liga debutants Girona, while 19th-placed Malaga sacked hapless coach Michel a day after Friday's 1-0 defeat at Getafe, a fourth consecutive loss in the league.

Girona reached ninth place in the 20-team standings.
