Rollable OLED, Micro LED Wall Are CES Display Tech Standouts

The Chinese vendor displayed a series of 4K premium TVs during the trade show, but what notable was its prototype product showcased under the name "Frame TV".

But even though some of these TVs may not be available for purchase, they can point to what might come in the future, according to Patrick Moorhead, president of tech analysis firm Moor Insights & Strategy.

Each year at CES, we've come to expect a new generation of TVs that are bigger, brighter, and clearer than the year before, and this year's show did not disappoint.

Agility is clearly a running theme among the TV giants this year - Samsung's own wow-factor CES TV reveal was The Wall, a huge 146-inch display that is modular. A big draw is that it's modular, which means users can customize the size and shape of the screen by adding or removing sections of it. The Samsung Q9S is a pretty large QLED TV by itself, even if it can't compare to the aforementioned The Wall, but it makes up for that by rendering content in all its 8K glory.

Other LG commercial innovations integrated into the company's CES booth include the unique 86-inch LG "Ultra Stretch" digital signage displays with content driving home key messages about ThinQ artificial intelligence, connected appliances and more.

MicroLED is based on Samsung's Cinema Screen technology, designed for movie theaters.

The 8K up-conversion is, likely, one small step on the path forward for TVs. This allows the MicroLEDs to do away with image quality-sapping colour and polarisation filters as well as backlights, which allows them to rival OLEDs in terms of black detail and colour reproduction.

"On a wall screen, you can watch TV, designating any section or portion of the display to act like a TV", he said. Bixby can do all your normal assistant stuff, including reading the news, checking the weather, and reading your calendar. "The addition of a voice assistant provides an answer to an actual consumer problem".

The report goes on to say that some people who visited the "Qlounge" as it has been called, said the new QLED technology was the most impressive thing Samsung has to show in the private area. Samsung isn't releasing pricing, but if you have to ask...
