Russian Federation probe: Ex-Trump aide Manafort sues Robert Mueller

More often than not, he'll win. "And if he's fair - because everybody knows the answer already", Trump said in the interview, explaining he does not believe there was collusion. They also are accused of conspiring to launder money.

Since getting his bail agreement amended to avoid house arrest, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was caught potentially working on an op-ed that appeared to violate terms of his bail.

So if you're Manafort, what do you do to challenge all this abusive overreach?

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein also was named as a defendant in the Manafort civil suit.

The suit asks that a federal judge place an injunction on Rosenstein, Mueller and the Justice Department to restrict them from performing their duties.

The suit claims Rosenstein acted beyond his authority in giving the special counsel such a broad grant of jurisdiction, and any actions taken pursuant to that authority must be set aside.

According to CNN, the lawsuit claims that Rosenstein's directive to appoint Mueller "exceeds the scope of Mr. Rosenstein's authority to appoint special counsel as well as specific restrictions on the scope of such appointments". "But in terms of a legal strategy, it's highly unlikely to prevail". Both Manafort and Gates have argued not liable and are planned to show up again under the steady gaze of the judge in the criminal case on January 16.

Paul Manafort's lawyers deserve points for creativity. That's only the procedural side.

Doublecrossed: Manafort sues DoJ, Mueller over investigation

Robert Mueller's team is packed with Hillary Clinton acolytes.

Manafort is one of four Trump associates - including former national security adviser Michael Flynn - to be charged so far in Mueller's investigation.

I don't know if Paul Manafort can win this suit, but the very fact that he's filing it means we've reached a point where someone has made a decision to stand up to one of these special counsels - an investigator no one can limit or fire, because politics decided that making the man "independent" was more important than safeguaring the rights of people who might become his targets. No one has demonstrated there is any evidence the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation, and none of the charges brought to date are even tangentially related to such a scenario.

He calls Mueller's behavior "arbitrary, capricious, and not in accordance with the law", adding that the way that the special counsel has interpreted his brief "has extended far beyond" the original terms of his inquiry.

It additionally says that Manafort met in 2014 with the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the administration's examination of his customer, previous Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, expelled in the midst of road dissents that year.

The information includes emails and calendar information related to Trump's presidential campaign, as well as details on the activities of Trump Organization executives.

Just as Nixon tried to stop the Cox investigation, history is repeating itself as some Republicans are attempting to prevent Mueller from continuing his investigation. That hefty, wonky court victory for the special counsel - which allowed him to pierce sacred attorney-client confidences - proved that Mueller, Dreeben, and the rest of their legal team is not to be messed with.
