Trump faces first physical exam in office

While we might not be getting much about Trump's mental health specifically, we should expect information typical to a physical exam.

But the White House said the claims about Trump's mental health are "complete fantasy".

Even some Republicans have recently questioned the president's fitness for office. The president has criticized the book's accuracy and said in a tweet that his greatest assets in life "have been mental stability and being, like, really smart".

"It is frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write", Trump said then. In George W. Bush's first exam as president, his doctor noted he enjoyed the occasional cigar, drank diet soda and ran 12 miles a week.

Brendan Boyle, a Democratic Congressman from Pennsylvania, is proposing new legislation - dubbed the Stable Genius Act - that would require all presidential candidates to undergo a mental health examination.

A reporter asked Trump on Thursday how he thought Friday's physical would go.

Trump famously boasted about his "perfect" state of health in advance of his election to the White House.

The book quotes former advisers and others who paint an unflattering portrait of Trump and his fitness to be president.

Trump has claimed his physical health has always been strong.

The president is scheduled to have his physical with Dr. Ronny Jackson on Friday.

He also said Trump took Crestor, a cholesterol-lowering statin; a low dose of aspirin to prevent heart attacks; antibiotics to treat skin rosacea; and Propecia for baldness.

President Donald Trump says the reviews are in: He puts on a "tremendous" meeting. Obama's exam reports chronicled his struggle to quit smoking. Dr. Jackson performed President Barack Obama's last few presidential check-ups. He had previously worked in the White House medical office treating Cabinet members and senior staff since 2006.

Jackson says he looks forward to providing additional details at a White House briefing Tuesday. Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches and a chocolate milkshake for dinner, according to a recent book by campaign aides Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie.

Several past presidents have had major health issues while in office that were kept from the public.

But Barbara Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia's Miller Center, highlighted how past presidents were adept at "hiding their medical infirmities".

Mr Trump is the oldest person in history to be elected to America's highest office and at the age of 70 was one year older than Ronald Reagan was when he was inaugurated.

Among the most prominent was Woodrow Wilson, who suffered a stroke that left him incapacitated, a fact that was kept from his own Cabinet.

El Salvador president Salvador Sanchez Ceren also criticised Mr Trump, saying he "protests and energetically reject those types of statements".

John F. Kennedy had several health problems, most notably Addison's disease, an adrenal gland disorder, which was concealed from the public.
