Brian Harman continued his hot run that began last week on Maui with a 7-under 63 today to drop to 13-under 127 to lead the Sony Open in Hawaii by three shots over four golfers, including 2009 champion Zach Johnson (67).

He reached the green in two at the ninth, making a 17-footer for eagle for a ideal finish to his round.

It's all just golf to him.

Defending champion Justin Thomas posted a second straight 67 to be tied for 17th at six under. He was seven shots behind.

Harman still looks back to a key tournament past year. The 5-foot-11 junior ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in scoring, fifth in assists, second in field-goal percentage (.559) and fifth in assist to turnover ratio (1.9).

The American was four under with two holes to play, but he endured a nightmare on the par-four eighth.

"The wind doesn't seem to take it as much", he said. I feel like I did when I was a kid again. "I'm starting to get some of those feelings back".

Harman, who won his second career title at the Wells Fargo Championship last season, is trying to build on a third-place finish at last week's Tournament of Champions, where he led at the halfway stage but was overtaken by world number one Dustin Johnson. Peterson is on a medical exemption and has eight tournaments to earn $350,000 to remain on the PGA Tour.

He has a 3-month-old son, one reason he made a decision to take the entire fall off before resuming his bid to keep his card. "I've never been in a better spot lifestyle-wise than I am right now, so that probably has a lot to do with it".

"I was disappointed I didn't make the Presidents Cup team". If I do, great. "I'm just out here free-wheeling".
