CES 2018: Google announces Assistant for Smart Displays, Android Auto and more

Google's Assistant dominated the show's headlines through sheer brute force of product announced and an over the top ad campaign that found everything from the monorails to the signage at the Westgate emblazoned with the words "Hello Google".

The device is named by LG as WK9.

According to people with familiar with Google's plan, the company is concerned about losing market share to Amazon.

Breaking away from the confines of the typical Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers, Google is already partnering with device makers like Lenovo, JBL and LG to make "Smart Displays" that allow users to pull up information by asking questions about the weather and traffic before they start their day.

This year's CES is coming to an end. Companies are taking advantage of what both sides have to offer. EBay we're not sure where they're going, but they do (at least in the United States and Australia) have an early solution which works with Google Assistant. Said Erickson, the higher the profile of Google Assistant on consumer electronics, the more the undeniable need for other developers to incorporate it into their gadgets will be.

Trump says fairer deal might coax U.S. back to Paris climate accord
There is nothing in the Paris deal which bans specific types of fuels, nor are there any penalties. In fact most of your energy or your electricity is produced by hydro.

Users of the smart displays being unveiled by Google can not browse the Web or install apps as they would on a tablet, but the new gadgets are optimized for sound quality and listening to voice commands.

The only possible competitor to Alexa at this point is Google Home, but Alexa has a huge lead: over 4,000 devices can now be controlled by Alexa, the company said, while Google's total is around 1,500. 64% of those who responded in the survey are using the device for smart home functionality and 66% said they wanted to entertain using the speakers with music and other content.

The LG ThinQ WK9 is most likely powered by Qualcomm's SD624 Home Hub Platform, as seen in Lenovo's and JBL's variants and we can expect it to be an industry standard of sorts until better hardware is released. With Alexa and Amazon, things would be different.

Dish customers will be able to use Google Assistant on Google Home, Android phones and iPhones to control their Dish equipment.

While last year's push was to get Google's smart speaker lineup up to speed, this year's focus will be on the smart display. They are due out in the U.S. this summer, but we don't know when they are coming to the United Kingdom or what prices will be. The company's voice-based digital assistant has been rolled out to millions of smart devices since its launch and will be seen in even more products this year including smart speakers, smart displays and Android Auto, among other things. The company still sounds bullish about the smart assistant. After months of feeling like Google Home was much more capable than I gave it credit for, there's finally a place to go where you can actually search all it can do.
